Scooby-Doo-Don’t fool with a phantom

Don't_Fool_with_a_Phantom_title_cardscooby-2-08_06 277854

At a dance TV show taping a wax phantom guy shows up and a big wig with the studio vanishes while the host if left tied up. He doesn’t want the cops called because he says the show has been losing money and bad publicity may put them under. He does tell Mystery Inc. that there was an old guy who swore he’d get back at the studio. So Velma, Shaggy and Scoob go to see him while Freddie and Daphne go to fool around or something. The old dude says he made a wax voodoo doll and he is getting his revenge on the studio. He looks like the undead and probably smells like rotten eggs. Anyways the whole gang end up at wax museum thingie to poke around and progress the plot such as it is. The wax  phantom shows up and unlike most Scooby monsters he talks rather than just growling. He chases them around and Scooby and Shag give him the run around and a hard time. The gang find a one way plane ticket to South America-that’s a clue. Eventually Freddie has a plan, but Daphne falls however this time her clumsiness helps out as she causes the Wax phantom to get trapped in extra wax. The police show up and Freddie chips Scoob and Shag out of wax and then unveils the phantom who is….

A-the studio big wig

B-the TV show host

C-the crazy old dude

D-Old Man Smithers (oh wait he wasn’t in this episode)

It’s A, he was stealing money from the station and was trying to scare people away and then was planning on leaving the country for South America.  Case solves, roll the credits and break out the Scooby snacks.

The negatives-For you nitpickers the phantom was actually a hefty guy who looked to be about sixty yet he ran almost as fast skinny Shaggy and a big dog. Plus he was for some reason wearing a three piece suit under his phantom disguise.

The positives-I think is a somewhat overlooked episode form season one. It has a decent mystery, a different kind of villain, a wax museum, a crazy old guy, some mentions of voodoo and a song while they do their chase scene. Give it a shot, it’s a good one.

I have watched far too many horror and sc-fi shows in my life. Now I feel the need to share this wealth of knowledge and make others suffer.

I remember this one! Hilarious and a good mystery, too.
